Recently I had the privilege to speak with Leslie Gail, life coach and author of Life Simplified, A Weekly Guide to Creating a Life You Love! Growing up with her brother, sister, a psychiatrist for a father and mom who struggled with illness Leslie learned at an early age all about life, death, friendship, and perseverance. Her mother taught her to, “follow that feeling that we are all born with, for it will never guide you in the wrong direction.” This is what lead her to life coaching.
What is life coaching and why would someone seek help from a life coach? According to Wikipedia, life coaching is, “a future-focused practice with the aim of helping clients determine and achieve personal goals. Life coaches use multiple methods that will help clients with the process of setting and reaching goals. Coaching is not targeted at psychological illness and coaches are neither therapists nor consultants.
Life coaching has its roots in executive coaching, which itself drew on techniques developed in management consulting and leadership training. Life coaching also draws inspiration from disciplines including sociology, psychology, positive adult development, career counseling, mentoring and other types of counseling. Contemporary life coaching can also be traced to the teachings of Benjamin Karter, a college football coach turned motivational speaker of the late seventies and early eighties. The coach may apply mentoring, values assessment, behavior modification, behavior modeling, goal-setting and other techniques in helping their clients. Clients are looking for a coach “to really listen to them and give honest feedback.” The top three issues in which clients seek help are time management, career and business.”
With a degree in psychology, Leslie has helped thousands of clients break through fears and live their fullest potential. She also wrote the book Life Simplified because she felt a lot of joy from coaching people and has a passion for helping moms, “Sometimes people make mountains out of molehills,” Gail explains. “My Monday Morning e mail tip provides motivation and action steps for people to take to make positive changes in their lives. I took these tips and put them together in a book form to create Life Simplified.”
Life Simplified is full of valuable life lessons that will teach you how to find the perfect balance and achieve your personal goals. This excerpt from the introduction explains the book in more detail.
“The chapters range from getting rid of emotional and physical clutter in your life, to embracing gratitude in your life, to living a life of no regrets. There is a wide variety of topics that ultimately will improve the quality of your life. Each chapter gives a basic overview of the topic and then includes three action steps. When you apply the action steps, they will propel you forward in your life. I am a firm believer that action is ultimately what creates change in your life.”
Gail is currently working on a second book, 10 Motherhood Secrets, which covers challenges that moms face every day. She talked with moms across the country and found common themes. These moms feel like they have to be the perfect mom and the perfect wife. Gail is hoping to release this new book sometime next year.
