Healthy Chocolate for Healthy Living (Giveaway)

Chocolate beverages or ka’kao, was known to the Mayas of Central America as the drink of the gods. This delicious beverage was served to kings in golden cups every day. They knew that chocolate could rejuvenate and restore and the recipe was simple – ground cocoa beans and water.

Now you can enjoy the same healthy and delicious drink from Crio Bru. The company got its name from the rarest and finest of cocoa beans, the Criollo. Their products are made with the most flavorful and aromatic cocoa beans.

Pure cocoa is one of nature’s super foods. Raw cocoa beans, by weight, have more antioxidants than almost any food in the world. After Crio Bru is brewed it has 150% more antioxidants than pure pomegranate juice.

According to a recent study, chocolate contains up to 5.82% serotonin, an organic compound that enhances mood and energy, provides better mental focus, improves sleep patterns and decreases body fat.

A 4 oz cup of Crio Bru contains only 10 calories, no sugar, fat or sodium and only 1.5 carbohydrates. Cocoa is also an appetite suppressant so this drink is wonderful for people who are trying to lose weight.

Crio Bru comes in three delicious flavors, Cavalla, Coca River, and Vega Reál. I tried Cavalla and Vega Reál and loved both flavors. Cavalla is a premium roasted cocoa with natural hints of dark spice, coconut and cinnamon. Vega Reál is a premium roasted cocoa with natural hints of red berries and dark spice and Coca River contains hints of jasmine and nutty after-tones.

Crio Bru can be brewed in a coffee maker or French press. You can also use the beans in your favorite recipes.

Not only is Crio Bru healthy and delicious but the company is committed to go green. Their corporate office is housed in a state-of-the art geothermal system to heat and cool the building and they use wind power as a sustainable energy source. They also encourage their customers to go green by reusing the grounds. There are several ways you can use already brewed grounds such as:

  • Adding 1-2 tablespoons to a smoothie or protein shake
  • Using them as a secret ingredient when baking brownies, cookies and other desserts
  • Brewing more Crio Bru. Unlike coffee, Crio Bru grounds can be used once again with slightly less water or a tablespoon of new grounds
  • Exfoliating and moisturizing your hands. Crio Bru will make your hands soft and smooth. Add sea salt and olive oil to make a full body scrub.
  • Adding as compost to your plants (as long as they are not pet accessible).

Crio Inc. also makes sure their cocoa is 100% responsibly grown and ethically traded. They purchase organic beans whenever possible and always pay fair trade prices which helps farmers and their communities.

The Healthy Moms Magazine and Crio Bru are giving away three gift baskets of Crio Bru roasted and ground cocoa beans, a $50 value, to three lucky readers.
