The Pill Problem – Book Exposes the Harmful Side Effects of Oral Contraceptives
In 1960 the FDA approved the use of oral contraceptives.  It is estimated that over 80% of women in the US born after 1945 have used oral contraceptives at one point in their lives.  Although, according to recent studies 50% of women who begin using oral contraceptives discontinue use within the first six to 12 months due to side effects.

As a practicing Catholic I’ve always viewed birth control pills as dangerous and have avoided them. The Church states, “The birth control Pill makes the inner lining of the uterus very hostile to implantation. It is not known how often the Pill acts in this way, but it cannot be denied that the Pill may be acting as an early abortion agent in any given cycle in any given woman.”

Pill Problem Book

Not only do birth control pills act as early abortion agents they are also extremely harmful to women’s health.       Ross Pelton, author pharmacist and  certified clinical nutritionist, educates women about why oral contraceptives can cause so many health problems, in his book, “The Pill Problem: How to Protect Your Health From the Side Effects of Oral Contraceptives.”

“Many women don’t realize that oral contraceptives can cause side effects like low energy, sleep problems, depression, and loss of one’s sex drive to name a few,” States Pelton. “What makes matters worse is that side effects like these can develop gradually over time, so most women will not realize that a developing health problem can be caused by long-term use of their birth control pills.”

Our bodies were not designed to process hormones through our digestive system. Taking hormone pills orally depletes several important nutrients from our system.  Pelton explains how oral contraceptives are what he calls, “vitamin robbers.”

“The Pill Problem,” is a very eye opening book.  I was surprised to learn that taking birth control pills can also contribute to low energy, cardiovascular disease, a weakened immune system, and even sexual side effects.  Every woman who has taken birth control pills or who is even considering taking them should read this book.
