This post is going to be a little personal.  Usually I write educational posts sharing my health and fitness tips but today I am going to write about a goal that I thought I would never reach. 

In March of 2013 I started running for the first time.  Back then I only ran about a mile at a time and my pace was roughly 15-16 minutes.  I blamed my slow pace on my short legs.  I decided I was getting a good work out and that was satisfying. 

Back then I tried to run about 2-3 times a week.  Sometimes the cold and windy Spokane weather or my husband’s busy work schedule prevented me from running as often as I would have liked.

By June my oldest daughter was out of school for the year and could babysit her siblings while I went out for a run.  I added another half mile to my course and downloaded the app MapMyRun on my phone.  I also increased my pace to a 13 minute mile.

I stopped running in October when the weather out here begins to get cold and the snow falls.  This year it started to warm up in April.  I continued with my 1 1/2 mile course in my neighborhood about 2-3 times a week. 

My husband does not like to run because he can’t stand having sore legs.  Sometimes we go for long walks together and we have a favorite walking route.  Spokane is in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains so we are surrounded by hills and inclines.  Our favorite walking route is about 2 1/2 miles up a very steep hill and then back down to where we live.  Sometimes I will put my youngest in the stroller and walk up that hill without my husband.  Each time I do this I always think, “Someday I am going to run this.”
