Halloween is on October 31, which falls on a Saturday this year. In our suburban Chicago town Trick or Treat hours are from 3pm until 7pm – a full four hours. For my children (ages 9, 8, 6 and 4), four hours is a long time and I doubt their little legs will keep up the whole time.
After Halloween we explain to our children why candy is bad for them and limit it to one or two pieces a day. By Thanksgiving we put all the leftover Halloween candy together in a bowl. The leftover candy is used as a reward for when our children go above and beyond what is expected of them. Candy and surgery snacks are special treats in our home and reserved for special occasions like holidays and birthdays.
How do you teach your kids about healthy eating during the holidays? How much candy do you allow your kids to eat on Halloween? Are you dressing up for Halloween or just your kids? Here at the Healthy Moms Magazine we wish all of our readers a happy and safe Halloween.
