My mother is a second generation Italian American.  Our family meals while I was growing up usually included some sort of pasta and my grandmother was a wonderful cook.  I enjoy serving Italian dishes to my children and am passing down family recipes.  Italian cuisine can be healthy and most of it uses fresh ingredients like fruits and vegetables, whole grains, beans, legumes, dairy, seafood and poultry.

Amy Riolo and award-winning author, chef, cooking show host, cooking instructor and Mediterranean expert has released a new cookbook endorsed by the American Diabetes Association.  “Italian Diabetes Cookbook: Delicious and Healthful Dishes from Venice to Sicily and Beyond
,” brings together a wonderful collection of authentic and naturally healthy Italian recipes.

The book contains 150 easy-to-prepare Italian dishes that your whole family will enjoy.   Each recipe is also paired with a wine and an interesting Italian living tradition.

Inspiration for the Italian Diabetes Cookbook came to Amy when she visited her ancestral hometown of Crotone, Italy, for the first time. This is a great cookbook not only for diabetics but for families who are interested in learning more about the Italian culture and learn how to cook healthy authentic Italian meals.

    We don’t have diabetes in our household, but a diabetic diet is a healthy diet, so I would definitely use the cookbook.

    I love your blog and being a ‘healthy mom’ is very important to me. I have two daughters and recently my life drastically changed. I was diagnosed 7 weeks ago type one diabetic and it has turned my whole world upside down. While I have always eaten healthy and kept fit, now it is imperative for me to follow a healthy diet so that I will be around for my children and future grandchildren. It is still early days for me but I am determined and with a good diet and exercise regime, I am confident I can still accomplish anything I put my mind to! I am up for the challenge and this book sounds like a wonderful way to eat right while also still enjoying good Italian food! Have a lovely weekend!

    My husband is Italian on his mother’s side of the family, His father passed of diabetes. So we are careful about certain foods but I am sure this would lend us more knowledge on how to prevent or be careful about the foods we enjoy.
