If an illness is going around school chances are one of my five children will come home with it. When one child gets sick, before long all seven of us have caught the bug. This year was no exception. Less than two weeks ago a stomach virus was spreading like wildfire and the boys, myself and my husband all caught it. Wouldn’t it be great if we could know ahead of time if a virus is spreading in our communities? A smart thermometer would help in situations like mine.
New Smart Thermometer by Swaive
This technology is now possible today. The Swaive Corporation, makers of the world’s first smartphone-enabled ear thermometer (available in the Apple Store), has recently partnered with Sickweather, developer of the world’s first real-time map of illness, to allow Swaive Smart Thermometer users to anonymously volunteer their fever data to the Sickweather community for tracking colds, flu, strep throat and more.
“Our customers will also see which illnesses are trending in their area while they are use our thermometer,” said Gurpal Bhoot, CEO of Swaive. “It adds a whole new dimension to understanding which illness they may have before taking the next steps in seeking appropriate medical care.”
Sickweather processes over 6 million reports of illness each month using advanced machine learning techniques to analyze social media for disease surveillance, but this is the first time that Sickweather will receive input directly from a medical device partner which has undergone a medical device quality system auditing process.
“We are really excited to see how much more refined our fever tracking will be once Swaive users start volunteering fever data,” said Graham Dodge, CEO of Sickweather. “This is a first in public health.”
This news is exciting for young families like mine. Recently, I had the chance to try out this technology using the new Swaive Intelligent Ear Thermometer Baby Thermometer with App for Tracking. The smart thermometer comes in a handy little storage box and includes two double A batteries and 20 hygienic covers.
Swaive recommends that users download the Swaive app from the app store or Google Play for their apple or android device. I easily located this from Google Play and installed it on my Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge . The app allows you to add your family members and customise their profiles with a photo. Another great feature of the Swaive app is that it automatically connects to most other health apps including the Samsung Health app.
Taking a temperature with the Swaive smart thermometer is pretty simple. All you do is press the button located on the top of the device, give your child‘s ear a little tug, and place the probe slightly inside the ear. Your child’s temperature will then be recorded on the app. Once the temperature appears on your smartphone you can assign it to a family member in your profile. This is a genius concept and it will change how busy families take care of their sick children. The only thing that I don’t like is, that you can not see the temperature reading until you connect the device to the Swaive app.
If you love the latest tech gadgets, and you are a busy person you must get this thermometer. It will save you time, and you can trust that the temperature will be accurate. The Swaive Thermometer retails for $60 and can be purchased on Amazon.com or the Apple Store.
