– Put the same amount of water on a plate, in a shallow bowl, and in a glass. Record evaporation times.
– Put the same amount of water on three identical dishes, but with different temperatures and record evaporation time.
– Find out why water cools us down – and then see whether ice, cool water, or lukewarm water is a better option! Different family members may have different preferences.
– Record air temperature, and then blow a fan with a bowl of ice behind it. See what a difference it makes.
– Put a cool wet towel on different body parts (wrist, knee, neck, ankle) – which is better at making a person feel comfortable?
– Research alternative cooling techniques around the world (wet sand, clay jars, bottles screwed into plywood) and try some out yourself.
– Find out which method of cooking raises the temperature in your house the least. For a bonus, try making a solar oven out of a small box and aluminum foil!
