Millions of Americans suffer from Metabolic Syndrome which is a condition that makes their bodies store the food they eat as fat rather than burn energy. A recent survey reveled that of 1,000 people asked, 63% are confused about how dieting or exercise really works – and they say that they have been confused and shamed into doing nothing. If this sounds familiar to you, you are not alone.
There is a book that will show you why Metabolic Syndrome is the potentially fatal, fat-storing condition that’s driving America’s weight epidemic – and how it can be managed and reversed.
Become a Fat Burning Machine Shows Why 100 Million Americans Can’t Lose Weight – And Why it’s Not Their Fault
This new book, Become a Fat Burning Machine, by pollster and analytics expert Mike Berland answers the question, why do certain foods help the body lose weight while others cause the body to store fat? I have always known that there is a connection between the types of food we eat and weight loss. Berland uses science based facts backed up by his team of experts to prove the connection between nutrition and weight loss.
There are many myths to weight loss. Some people believe solely that if you watch your calories and maintain a calorie deficit, which means you burn more calories than you are eating you will lose weight. That is true to a point, however you also need to make sure you are getting the right nutrients in the calories you are taking in and you are not eating foods that will cause your body to store fat.
Fat Burning Machine also debunks the following myths:
- A good workout is a sweat storm.
- Hunger is a badge of honor in weight loss – thin people have the discipline to live with being a little hungry all the time.
- Choose low-fat and no fat foods over full fat.
Some of the information he reveled in this book surprised me. Such as, if you do high intensity workouts and eat low octane foods your body will store fat. Moderate amounts of meat, whole eggs, real cheese, full-fat mayonnaise, cream and even butter are on the list of fat burning foods. Eating the right calories matters. If you eat a lower-calorie count diet of “fat storing” foods you will gain weight instead of losing it. If you work out to the point of exhaustion and extreme hunger you will be setting yourself up for failure.
I don’t need to lose weight, but I would love to build some muscle around my mid-section. What I found the most helpful in this book was the nutrition section. Some of the foods that he listed as fat-burning foods surprised me. I also realised that my Italian diet of pasta nearly every night is not helping me burn the fat around my middle.
About the authors:
Dubbed “The Genius Pollster,” by MSNBC, Mike Berland made a hugely successful career by getting answers for clients ranging from Facebook and the National Hockey League to political candidates Hillary Clinton and Michael Bloomberg. His professional accomplishments rely on the ability to ask the questions that get to the truth of the matter. Berland is able to pinpoint what motivates people and how they can be motivated to change their attitude and behaviors. Mike struggled with his weight for nearly thirty years. From 1986 to 2012, he gained one to two pounds each year, steadily growing from 192 to 236 pounds. Year after year, Berland tried diet after diet, new exercise belief system after new exercise belief system and still couldn’t find the answer to the question: why can’t I lose weight? Berland sought the help of Dr. Laura Lefkowitz, who introduced him to the concept of metabolic syndrome, and underlying disorder of energy utilization storage. He then assembled a team of Exercise Physiologist-Nutrition Scientists. Their expertise and insights, along with Berland’s research finally led him to the answers. Mike quickly lost sixty pounds and feels better than ever. Recently, he’s put his mother on the plan and she lost 54 pounds. He wrote Become a Fat Burning Machine for her.
